Former NBC News correspondent Edwin Newman has died. He will be remembered as much for his stern defense of the English language as for his reporting skills, which were considerable. Brian Williams summed him up with the words "smart" and "classy." Right on both counts.Here's the New York Times obituary. Journalism as a profession can ill afford his loss.
